Fibromyalgia Care

Fibromyalgia is a complex and often misunderstood condition, characterised by widespread pain, profound fatigue, and heightened sensitivity within the nervous system.
For many, it can feel both physically exhausting and emotionally isolating, particularly when symptoms fluctuate or are difficult to explain.
My role is to provide a space where your experience is recognised, understood, and approached with clinical depth and sensitivity.
Fibromyalgia shares key features with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, including post-exertional fatigue, cognitive dysfunction, and altered pain processing. These patterns are increasingly understood as part of a broader picture involving central sensitisation and nervous system dysregulation.
Clinical Presentation
While each case is individual, patients commonly present with:
-
Diffuse musculoskeletal pain and tenderness
-
Persistent, non-restorative fatigue
-
Sleep disturbance
-
Cognitive impairment (“brain fog”)
-
Sensory sensitivity (light, sound, touch)
-
Autonomic fluctuations (temperature, circulation)
-
Gastrointestinal or bladder dysfunction
Symptoms may vary in intensity and often require a carefully paced and considered approach.
A Refined Treatment Approach
Treatment is informed by an adapted application of the Perrin Technique, tailored specifically for individuals with fibromyalgia.
This is a subtle, highly regulated form of osteopathic care, integrating:
-
Precise manual therapy
-
Advanced soft tissue techniques
-
Gentle cranial work
-
Controlled articulatory movements
The intention is to support the interplay between the nervous system and lymphatic pathways, encouraging physiological balance without placing additional demand on an already sensitised system.
Care is delivered with particular attention to tolerance, pacing, and individual response, ensuring treatment remains restorative rather than provocative.
A Considered, Whole-Person Perspective
Fibromyalgia rarely exists in isolation. It influences, and is influenced by, multiple aspects of health and lifestyle.
Time is taken to develop a detailed understanding of your history, triggers, and current capacity. Where appropriate, partners or family members are welcome to attend the initial consultation to support a more complete clinical picture.
Clinical Framework
This approach is influenced by the work of Dr Raymond Perrin, whose research explores the relationship between lymphatic function, the central nervous system, and chronic fatigue-related conditions.
While no single model fully explains fibromyalgia, this framework offers a structured and clinically reasoned approach to supporting complex, multisystem presentations.
What to Expect
Treatment is individualised, measured, and responsive.
The aims of care include:
-
Reducing the overall burden of symptoms
-
Improving functional capacity and resilience
-
Supporting more restorative sleep
-
Minimising post-exertional flare-ups
-
Enhancing overall quality of life
Progress is typically gradual, reflecting the need to work in alignment with the body’s tolerance and capacity for change.
Discreet, Patient-Centred Care
Above all, this is a space for thoughtful, unhurried care, where your condition is approached with the level of attention and clinical respect it requires.
